How can I focus on my work as well as my family?

Question: How can I focus on my work as well as my family? I am a 39 years old housewife who has just started a small business to sell clothes in our community. I am finding it very difficult to balance work and home as I feel my husband and my son (age 19) may feel neglected. I do cook for them, do all household chores but my husband and son are not cooperating with me as they say I am doing it only for some satisfaction and there is no real earning in my work. My son stays at home and keeps complaining and fighting with me. I do need to earn money as well as respect for myself. I feel quite down and confused. What can I try doing now?

Answer: Balancing work and family can be a challenging task, especially when you’re just starting a new business. It’s important to remember that it’s normal to feel overwhelmed and uncertain at times, but with some effort and planning, you can find a way to balance both.

Firstly, try to have an open and honest conversation with your husband and son about how important your business is to you and how it can benefit the family financially. Explain to them that your work is not just for your own satisfaction but also to contribute to the household income.

You can also try to involve your family in your business as much as possible, such as seeking their opinions on designs or ideas, or even asking for their help with certain tasks. This can help them feel included and valued in your business, and it may also encourage them to support you more.

To manage your time effectively, try to set specific work hours and create a schedule that balances work and family time. Make sure to communicate this schedule to your family so that they know when you will be available for them and when you need to focus on work.

However, it’s also important to set boundaries with your son and establish that your work is important and necessary for the family’s well-being. It’s possible that he may need time to adjust to the new dynamic, but with patience and communication, you can find a way to balance both your business and your relationship with your son.

When it comes to your son, it’s important to address his complaints and try to understand his perspective. It’s possible that he may feel neglected or resentful because he perceives that your business is taking away from your time with him. In this case, it may be helpful to set aside specific quality time with him, such as having a regular family dinner or planning an outing together.

It’s also important to prioritize self-care and take breaks when needed. This can include activities such as exercise, meditation, or simply spending time with friends or doing something you enjoy.

Remember that finding balance takes time and effort, but with persistence and communication, you can find a way to manage both your work and your family responsibilities.
